Snowdon gets all the attention. This list is for the Wales that doesn't, an 18th-century Romantic landscape in a remote Ceredigion valley, a flooded quarry glowing electric blue on the Pembrokeshire coast, hidden gardens in market towns that most visitors walk past entirely, and bookshops that justify a two-hour drive on their own.

None of these places try to be discovered. Some are free, some require some effort to reach, and all of them reward the intention. This is Wales at its most honest and its most strange.
