Hafod Estate is one of Wales's great secrets, an 18th-century Picturesque landscape designed by Thomas Johnes in a remote Ceredigion valley, with Gothic bridges, dramatic waterfalls and forest paths that wind through what feels like a private wilderness. It's barely known outside Wales and barely crowded even when it is.
The circular walks are well-maintained and properly rewarding. The waterfall sections are spectacular after rain. It takes about forty minutes to reach from Aberystwyth, which means most visitors don't bother, their loss, completely, your gain.
