Pitlochry Dam & Fish Ladder

FreeactivityPitlochry, Pitlochry

Watch Atlantic salmon navigate a glass-sided fish ladder beside the Pitlochry power dam.

Free entry

The Pitlochry fish ladder is one of Scotland's genuinely unusual free attractions. Built to help salmon bypass the hydroelectric dam, it has a glass-sided observation chamber where you can watch the fish swimming up the 34-pool ladder, best in autumn migration season.

It's free, it's fascinating, and it works as both natural history and engineering spectacle simultaneously. The walk along the dam to the theatre is scenic.
