Beddgelert sits where the Afon Glaslyn and Afon Colwyn meet beneath the flanks of Moel Hebog, and it is, by almost any measure, the prettiest village in Snowdonia. The stone bridges, the river, and the mountains on three sides create a composition that would feel contrived if it weren't entirely natural.
The legend of Gelert, the hound killed in error by Prince Llywelyn, may be Victorian invention, but the grave and the story are part of the village's character now. The Glaslyn valley walk to Llyn Dinas takes 45 minutes from the village square. The café and pub options are good enough to make staying for lunch the obvious choice.
