Killiecrankie gorge is spectacular by any measure, the River Garry crashes through a narrow defile below old oak and birch woodland, with paths threading above it. The NTS visitor centre tells the story of the 1689 Battle of Killiecrankie, where a government soldier allegedly leapt 18 feet across the gorge to escape.
The walk to the famous Soldier's Leap viewpoint takes 20 minutes from the car park. The gorge looks extraordinary in autumn.
