Grainger Market opened in 1835 and is one of the finest Victorian covered markets in Britain. The original Marks & Spencer penny bazaar started here in 1895, a small commemorative stall still operates in the original spot. The market now runs across two floors of the original building, with butchers, fishmongers, bakers, and street food traders who have been here for decades.
The butchers' corridor on the ground floor is exceptional and prices are significantly below supermarket equivalent. The café stalls make it a genuine lunch destination for people working in the city centre. Monday to Saturday; Sundays closed.
