Headingley is 3 miles north of Leeds city centre and operates at a different pace. The cricket ground, where England Tests are played, anchors one end of the suburb. Victoria Road runs through the middle of it, lined with independent cafes, bars, and the kind of charity shops that yield genuine finds. The pubs are properly local rather than student-oriented.
The university campus sits between here and the city centre, which means Headingley has the energy of a student area without being entirely consumed by it. Worth a half-afternoon combined with a slow walk back down to the centre through Woodhouse Moor.
