The Hermitage is one of Scotland's finest NTS woodlands, ancient Douglas Firs of cathedral proportions, the River Braan crashing through a gorge, and Ossian's Hall perched above the falls like a folly escaped from the 18th century. The circular walk takes around 45 minutes and rewards at every turn.
Come after rain for the falls at full force. The Douglas Firs are among the tallest trees in Britain, looking up from their base is its own experience.
