Dunkeld Cathedral

FreeactivityDunkeld, Dunkeld

12th-century cathedral ruins above the Tay, half ruin, half living church, entirely atmospheric.

Free entry

Dunkeld Cathedral operates as both active parish church and magnificent ruin, the nave open to the sky, the choir restored and in use, the whole thing sitting in cathedral grounds beside the River Tay with views to forested hills. It's free, it's ancient, and it has a particular quietness.

The grounds contain some extraordinary trees, including a famous Dunkeld larch. Arrive early morning for the best light.
