Malibu Grill is the most eclectic menu in Belfast's Black food scene and it earns that distinction. Jerk chicken with the right level of heat, grilled tilapia that's been treated well, waakye that holds its own alongside dishes from a completely different tradition. The kitchen isn't confused, it's drawing on a wider range of influences than most restaurants in the city dare to.
The Clifton Street location puts it at the edge of the city centre, accessible but slightly off the main tourist drag. The crowd is mixed, community regulars, students, people who've been told to come here. The atmosphere in the evening picks up; this is a place that works for dinner and stays good later.
If you've been eating your way through Belfast's Afro-Caribbean spots, this is a must stop for the range alone. Go with someone who can share dishes so you can get across the menu.
