Northern Ireland gets reduced to two things: the Titanic and the Troubles. Both are real, and both deserve serious attention. But the country is bigger than its shorthand. Tollymore Forest Park feels like a different world entirely, ancient woodland and stone arches and a river that threads through it all. East Belfast has creative spaces and sculpture parks most visitors miss entirely. Derry's walled city is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe and the vast majority of tourists who visit Northern Ireland never make it there. This list is for the part of Northern Ireland you find when you stop following the guidebook.
