Porthgain is a hamlet on the north Pembrokeshire coast that exists primarily because of its Victorian harbour, and The Shed exists because of the harbour's fishing boats. The restaurant is simple, chunky wooden tables, lobster and crab from the water outside, fish that arrived this morning, chips, and the quality is the kind that only proximity to the source produces.
The village has a pub (The Sloop, also good), a gallery, and nothing else. It is 20 minutes from St Davids along the coast road. Book ahead for dinner in summer; you cannot simply turn up and expect a table.
