The Glasshouse (formerly Sage Gateshead) is Norman Foster's silver-skinned building curving above the Gateshead riverbank, and it is one of the finest pieces of public architecture built in Britain this century. Inside are three performance spaces, the main hall has some of the best acoustics in the north, plus the largest free music education programme in Europe.
The ground-floor bar and café have unrestricted access and give the best interior view of Foster's structural acrobatics. Check the programme for whatever's on, the range from classical to folk to jazz to world music is wider than most venues manage.
