The Ubiquitous Chip

£50–£80restaurantWest End, Glasgow

Glasgow's most iconic restaurant since 1971, courtyard dining, exceptional Scottish produce, no pretension.

£50–£80 per person

The Ubiquitous Chip has been on Ashton Lane since 1971 and has somehow managed to remain genuinely good rather than coasting on reputation. The courtyard, covered, candlelit, draped in greenery, is one of the most romantic rooms in Scotland. The menu is rooted in Scottish produce: venison, seafood, langoustine, all treated with respect rather than fuss.

Upstairs is the more casual brasserie if you want the experience without the full commitment. Downstairs is where you come for a proper occasion. Either way, this is Glasgow at its most warmly itself.
