Sharmanka is one of the most singular places in Britain. Russian sculptor Eduard Bersudsky arrived in Glasgow in the 1990s and has been building mechanical sculptures here ever since, hundreds of carved figures and found objects assembled into machines that perform twice weekly to music and choreographed light. They tell stories about human struggle, survival, and absurdity, and they are genuinely unforgettable.
Performances run Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Book ahead, the space is small, the audience is close, and the experience is not like anything else you will have in a Scottish city. This is the kind of place that Glasgow produces and doesn't adequately advertise.
