The Barras has been running since the 1920s and still operates on its own terms. Saturday and Sunday, the streets around Gallowgate fill with stalls selling everything from vintage clothing and vinyl records to tools, spices, second-hand books, and street food from Glasgow's West African and Caribbean communities. It is not polished. That is the entire point.
The Barras Art and Design Centre alongside it has brought studios and independent food vendors into the old market hall, there's good coffee, good jerk chicken, and a reason to stay longer than you expected. Go Saturday morning, bring cash.
