One of the finest botanic gardens in the world and almost entirely free to enter. The glasshouses cost a little extra and deliver on every level: a giant lily pond, cloud forest, and an arid house that feels like a desert in the middle of Edinburgh.
Best on a clear morning when the views south to Arthur's Seat and the Castle are unobstructed. The John Hope Gateway cafe is better than it needs to be.
