Clifton Village is at the top of the hill above the gorge and operates at a different temperature to the rest of Bristol, quieter, more independent, with the Georgian terraces of The Mall and Regent Street lined with the kind of shops that are worth spending time in rather than walking past. Delis, independent bookshops, florists, galleries.
The pubs are good, the Portcullis and the White Lion for views, the Albion for food. Clifton's weekend farmers' market runs on Saturdays. The bridge is a five-minute walk from the centre of the village, making a natural combination.
