Platform Arts

£0–£10galleryCity Centre, Belfast

Belfast's artist-led contemporary gallery, emerging and mid-career work that sits outside the tourist circuit and rewards the detour.

£0–£10 per person

Platform Arts is an artist-led gallery that operates independently of the mainstream Belfast arts circuit. The work it shows tends to be contemporary, often experimental, and selected by a committee of practising artists, which means the programming reflects where art is actually going rather than what's safe to show. If you've already done the Ulster Museum and the MAC, this is the next step.

Entry to exhibitions is free or very low cost. The space is small enough that you can take in everything properly without gallery fatigue. The opening events and talks that accompany new exhibitions are worth knowing about if you're in the city when one is on.

For a certain kind of visitor, the kind who wants to see what a city's creative community is actually making. Platform Arts is more interesting than anywhere larger and better-funded in Belfast. Check the website before you go to see what's on.
