The Circus and Assembly Rooms

£0–£10activityUpper Town, Bath

John Wood's geometric masterpiece, three curved terraces forming a perfect circle, a minute from the Crescent.

£0–£10 per person

The Circus is the other great John Wood set-piece: three curved terraces of identical houses arranged in a perfect circle, with three streets radiating out from it like the spokes of a wheel. It sits a five-minute walk from the Royal Crescent and is, architecturally, the more technically ambitious of the two. Standing in the centre and looking up at the three equal arcs of Georgian stone is one of Bath's best quiet moments.

The Assembly Rooms next door are currently closed for a major renovation (until 2027), when a new Georgian visitor experience is planned to open. The Circus itself is always free and the most photogenic stretch of upper Bath.
